This medium styled RIesling is produced by Greystone Wines, a family owned winery in the Waipara Valley, the heart of North Canterbury. Greystone is one of North Canterbury's wine stars situated on the slopes of limestone rich hills in Omihi. All of the grapes that go into Greystone wines are 100% certified organic with BioGro NZ and all are estate grown. No additional fruit is purchased to supplement production, which is one of many incremental steps that go into Greystone's high quality wines.
Greystone Riesling is one of our faves here in store and is a medium style with a nice balance of 23 grams per litre of residual sugar, which off sets the bright acidity and ensures that the overall flavours and style of the wine works in harmony. It contains 13% ABV and was made from grapes that contained a relatively low 8% botrytis, which adds weight and flesh to the wine.

About Greystone
The Greystone wine story began in 2000 when the Thomas Family bought an old sheep farm on the Omihi hills in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. The rolling limestone hills lured this family in and their goal was a single minded one: to make great wines from the limestone rich soils here. Fast forward 20 years and Greystone is one of the great (and, some might say, yet to be fully discovered) wineries in this outstanding wine region. Not least due to the work of winemaker Dom Maxwell and general manager Nick Gill, who began working together in 2005 and has grown along with the brand and quality.
On the nose pungent, rich tropical blackcurrant bud and passionfruit aromas combine with notes of green nettle and oyster shell. The palate is generous and intense with concentrated flavours of white peach, passionfruit and fresh grapefruit. A slight herbal edge and salty minerality leads to a long lingering finish.
James and Annie Millton are not only pioneers of certified organic winemaking in New Zealand, they are also pioneers of Viognier. They make this one from vines grown on the silt banks of the Waipoa River in the Gisborne region. This is a dry, full bodied and textural wine with ripe apricot skin and peachy flavours. It drinks well now and will continue to age gracefully for the medium term; five to six years and possibly even longer.

The warm Mediterranean climate in South Australia provides great ripening conditions for the late ripening Petit Sirah grape, which is also known as Durif. This grape is a cross between Syrah and Peloursin and was developed by the late French vine nurseryman, Dr Durif, whose aim was to make a disease resistant red grape variety which retained ripe flavours and body.
This is Yalumba's premium Viognier offering from their Rare & Fine Collection and shows all the hallmarks of classic Viognier; peach and citrus flavours bundled in an aromatic mouthful with that silky texture that the variety is so well known for. This wine was fermented using only indigenous yeasts, natural to the vineyard, allowing for excellent terroir expression. Lees ageing and regular batonnage for 10 months has increased the complexity and creaminess of the wine and further heightened the palate weight.

Cyril Henschke developed the Henschke reputation for premium riesling wines as early as the 1950s from the vineyard areas of Eden Valley, Keyneton and Springton in the Eden Valley wine region. This region provides ideal ripening conditions for the riesling grape and has a unique track record of exceptional ageing potential for the variety.
This riesling takes its name from a local landmark, Peggy’s Hill, at the top of the range between the villages of Eden Valley and Keyneton. Produced from selected traditional Henschke Eden Valley growers, whose vines are up to 50 years old, growing in low-vigour ancient Cambrian soils at around 500m altitude. This Eden Valley riesling displays exceptional varietal and regional characteristics.
Pale straw with lime hues. Lifted and perfumed aromas of citrus, almond blossom, jasmine and frangipani with notes of lemon zest, kaffir lime leaf and lemon thyme. The palate is fruit-focused with concentrated lime juice , green apple and stone-fruit flavours, supported by clean, crisp acidity and great length.
Terrazes Malbec is one of our favourite Argentinian reds and is made from grapes grown at over 1000 metres above sea level. The vineyard was planted by Moet & Chandon in the 1950s and was the champagne giant's first winemaking venture outside France.
