Sloe Gin
A sloe gin from the brilliant Belgian distillery, Filliers. Whilst you might see sloe gin as a purely British commodity, like fish & chips or tweed jackets, the talented folks at Filliers certainly know how to whip one up to rival many of the best Britain has to offer.
Rich and jammy with cherries, figs and plums, alongside classic notes of juniper and cinnamon, Filliers Sloe Gin is just the ticket to warm you up on a chilly winter evening, but just as good splashed into a refreshing cocktail.
Nose: Plum jam springs to mind, but so does sweet chutney. There's a savoury edge too, well seasoned bread sauce with clove perhaps. More perfumed given time in the glass.
Palate: Boom! Thick, dark cherry and prune with juniper and cinnamon, where did that come from?
Finish: Mouthcoating, tart and oh so moreish.
Picked after the first frosts, the wild sloes from the sloe trees growing on all limestone plateaux are macerated whole in gin previously distilled by Gabriel Boudier. All the aromas and the colour of the flesh and stone of the sloe dissolve in the gin. After maceration, a carefully controlled amount of sugar is added to obtain this traditional liqueur, whose origin dates back to British household traditions.Source: boudier.com
