Fiano is one of Italy's great white native grapes, mainly found in the warmer southern climates. Not a complicated wine at all but it's not trying to be. It's just very drinkable.
Masseria Altemura can be found on the “heel” of Italy in Salento in the region of Puglia. The property is actually a fortified, self-sufficient farm built in the 4th century to defend itself from foreign invaders. The history around the property is long and exciting. Amazingly it has an underground river running under the clay and chalky gravel vineyards, which must have been very useful in the days of siege warfare.
This is a gentle wine with green apple and apricot notes on the nose. On the palate it has a soft waxy character typical of the variety and is juicy and finely textured delivering excellent fruit purity and poise, leading to a delectably mouth-watering finish.
