Aglianico is the name of one of the great red grapes of Southern Italy and is pronounced Ah-lee-ahn-neek-oh - this is a big wine with ripe, dark fruit flavours of fleshy red plums and a hint of blackberry, underpinned with a silky smooth mouthfeel and firm tannic finish.
Drinks beautifully now and can certainly age for up to five years, possibly longer.
A great red to drink with gamey, earthy flavours such as roasted aubergine and slow cooked game meat dishes.
Aglianico is often described as the Barolo of the south, a reference to its firm tannins and high acidity, both of which enable it to age for the medium to long term.
