Nebbiolo
Two bottles only per customer of each of the single vineyard 2017 Produttori del Barbaresco
Paje is one of the great red wines of Italy and is made entirely from the great structured red grape, Nebbiolo; exceptional in taste, complexity and its ability to age for at least a decade, evolving into a silky delicious wine over this time. It's made by the Produttori del Barbaresco. This highly respected winery cooperative was founded in 1958 and now has 51 members who collectively own approximately 100 hectares of the entire appellation, which means they own approximately a seventh of the appellation. The single vineyard wines, such as this one, are only made in highly rated vintages (all of the grapes go into a blend in other years) and released after four years maturation in the riserva programme.
All single vineyard cru wines from Produttori del Barbaresco are fermented at 30?C and given 32 days of skin contact time before being pressed in large oak barrels for 36 months of maturation in wood followed by a further nine months aging in bottle, prior to release.
* The 2017 cru Produttori del Barbarescos are extremely collectible because there were no 2018 cru wines made, which means the blend will be of higher quality than usual ? and there will be more of it.
The 2018 Produttori del Barbaresco blend is not yet available in New Zealand. ETA is late 2022.

Cocchi is celebrating its 130th anniversary with the launch of a limited-edition Barolo Chinato modelled after a 19th-century recipe. Guilio Cocchi, a pastry chef, founded his namesake company in Asti in 1891. To commemorate its 13 decades, Cocchi has created a single vineyard, single-cask, single vintage aromatised wine called Barolo Chinato Tipo Esportazione, based on a recipe first developed in the 19th century exclusively for export markets. The recipe was originally formulated with a higher ABV and a specific blend of herbs and spices, so it would maintain its quality throughout long journeys by ship. The new bottling is made from the 2016 Barolo DOCG vintage grown in a single vineyard on the Castiglione Falletto Estate, Piedmont, Italy. The expression?s botanicals include cinchona bark, rhubarb root, gentian flowers, laurel leaves, cardamom, coriander and orange peel. Sitting at 18% ABV, the Barolo Chinato was created for straight sipping and is said to pair well with dark chocolate.
THE BOTTLE Each bottle is wax-sealed by hand and features a reproduction of the 1900s label. In preparation for the gifting season, it comes in a ?luxury? box, along with reprints of vintage Cocchi postcards The Barolo Chinato Tipo Esportazione is a highly collectable Limited Edition distributed in premium packaging: ? Reproduction of 1900?s label, hand drawn and printed with vintage technique ? Each bottle is sealed by hand with sealing wax and stamp. ? Premium wooden box with brass plate. ? Accompanied by reprint of vintage Cocchi postcards.
TASTING NOTES On the nose, it offers rich, woody notes of cinchona bark, dried tobacco leaves, dried roses and cocoa beans, while the palate brings sweetness, dark berries, violets, velvety tannins along with cardamom, liquorice and bitter orange peel. The finish delivers charred wood, cloves and eucalyptus, plus lingering dark chocolate. Limited edition of 1200 numbered bottles.
Deliciously impressive red from Italy's greatest wine region, Piemonte in the north west. This wine is characterised by deep red fruit flavours, savoury smoked aromas and structure, freshness, lightness and depth - meet a new expression of Nebbiolo in this outstanding Barbaresco from the Massolino family, who make this wine from their Albesani vineyard. This site is situated at the top a hill facing south west with 60 year old vines where the grapes gain firm ripe tannins and bold expressive red fruit flavours underpinned by a note of earthy spicy depth.
The 2019 vintage was moderately warm, but able to achieve excellent freshness and a perfect balance, allowing the first vintage of this wine.
Big but elegant, red fruited but powerful Nebbiolo made in small volumes every year from the Albesani vineyard in Neive, situated 230 metres above sea level on two hectares with average vine age of 50 years. This wine was first made in 2019 with long fermentation and maceration in oak at 30?C followed by ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels for up to 18 months with another 24 months ageing in bottle, pre release.
Highly complex, open and fruity aromas with red fruit flavours and complex tastes of hay, spices and earth all providing great depth and fullness. Drinking well now and capable of long term ageing.
A great Barolo for ageing, which comes into its own after at least five to six years in bottle but can be enjoyed now, especially if decanted. Earthy aromas and tight structure show the great full body and firmness of the Nebbiolo grape's impressive tannins and are supported by tight acidity adding nervy appeal to every savoury sip.
A firm full bodied blend of Nebbiolo grapes with all the elegance, red fruit and silkiness of a great Barolo; it's a blend of mostly cru vineyards offering a complex red now and for ageing.
Made by one of Piedmonte's great wineries. A wine with superb elegance, depth, complexity and aromatic length. Drink now or cellar.
A very special Barolo from a great producer and an exceptional year, 2016, the vintage of the decade, if early tastings are anything to go by and we think they are. The 2016 vintage in most classic European wine regions has made top notch reds with the power, structure and beauty to drink gorgeously well now and age for at least a decade.
This incredibly full bodied, powerfully dry Nebbiolo spent 30 months in large format Slovonian oak after old school fermentation in oak. That's a whopping amount of time by any stretch, but it sits well in this wine.
A keeper.
Classic, stunning and beautifully perfumed, full bodied Barolo made as a blend of grapes grown on the Vigne Colle Sud-Ovest and Punta Marcello vineyards.
The wine spends about 20 days on skins before being aged in Slovenian-oak casks of various sizes for 3 years and 6 months.
"Capturing the freshness and finesse of the vintage, this has classic varietal aromas of rose petal, forest berry, camphor and underbrush. Reflecting the nose, the vibrant, focused palate delivers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, wild mint and star anise set against taut, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. While you won't have to wait years before enjoying this, it will also age at least another decade or more. Best 2024?2033. "

A special wine from a top producer of Nebbiolo. This is a rare wine, a Riserva multi vineyard blend of a selection of the best vineyards from Produttori del Barbaresco, one of the top producers in the small Barbaresco DOCG appellation in Piemonte.
The 2016 vintage was the year of the century so far and leant its high quality grapes to a riserva expression of the multi vineyard blend. This means it has been aged for longer than usual. It is only the second time a Riserva blend has been produced. The first was in 1990
