Pinot Noir
Te Muna is the majestic valley situated 9 kilometres east of Martinborough village and it's home to a growing number of high quality, super tasty wines, such as this one from the new Butterworth estate, formerly known as Julicher.
This Pinot Noir is made from three clones of Pinot; clones 5, Abel, 666 and 667, which each contributes different interesting elements of complexity to this wine, which is made entirely from grapes grown on the Ranger Block. This is the new name for the home block at the Julicher Vineyard site. Winemaker Martin Bell matured this Pinot Noir for 11 months in French oak, 25% new. It has great fruit weight and concentration, which Bell says comes from both the clones and because it’s a barrel selection of his best Pinot Noirs, so a combination of winemaking methods finds its way into this lovely Pinot Noir.
Calvert Vineyard is a special piece of land on Felton Road in Central Otago and it is home to several great Pinot Noirs, including this fragrant, elegant and muscular wine. Produced for Owen Calvert, this wine is made by Sarah Burton who brings out Pinot's refreshing qualities of intense red florals, cherries and a savoury twist on the finish.
Silky, lithe and lovely savoury Martinborough Pinot Noir, named after the late Ted Wilde, co owner of Cirrus Vineyard south of Martinborough village and home to the grapes in this wine. This elegant wine is made with grapes grown in the outstanding dry, warm 2020 vintage; a year with a long autumn and great quality fruit, which made fabulous wines such as this beautiful fragrant red and dark cherry take on Pinot Noir, which has a medium body and beautifully balanced acidity leading to a long finish.
Organically certified, hand picked grapes from two vineyards make their way into this full bodied, complex and savoury Pinot Noir. Cairnmuir and Arthur?s Vineyard in Bannockburn are the vineyards and all the grapes were fermented with wild yeasts, which tends to broaden the range of flavours that develop in great Pinot Noir (and in other wild yeast fermented wines). The finished wines were all aged for nine months in French oak, 20% new, then blended to create this refreshing but dark Pinot Noir which has a long life ahead. Stash it in the cellar or decant and serve in a large glass to open up its flavours now.
This silky, elegant Pinot from Chard Farm is made with from vineyards in Lowburn and Parkburn where the soils are a mixture of alluvial schist. All grapes in this wine were hand picked and fermented in small lots.

Expressive, complex bouquet with sweet floral notes, coupled with swirls of ripe cherry, plum fruits and aromatic spice. Ample freshness and velvety tannins lead to a palate that is elegant, satisfying and highly drinkable.
SINGLE VINEYARD - PARKBURN VALLEY
DESCRIPTION:
The Pinot Noir from Viper Vineyard is crafted using grapes cultivated in the Grandstand Block, situated within the Viper Vineyard itself, nestled in the Parkburn region on the western shores of Lake Dunstan. This vineyard derives its name from the profusion of the wildflower "Vipers Bugloss" that blankets the surrounding area.
Perched upon an undulating terrace above the valley floor, the vineyard's soil predominantly consists of sandy loam layered over red clay fused with schist gravel. With the moderating influence of cooling daytime temperatures, the ripening process extends into the late season, imparting a spicy character to the wines, accompanied by deep fruit flavours and richness.
WINEMAKERS COMMENTS:
The wine exudes an aromatic and vibrant bouquet, showcasing notes of red cherry, pomegranate, and delicate, freshly bloomed florals. Fresh red fruit notes and herbal undertones rest on a foundation of silky tannins, evolving into a refined and enduring finish. Pronounced mineral nuances and acidity harmonize to create an invigorating and confident balance.
Certified organic grapes were used to make this new 2019 Pinot Noir from Churton Estate?s second generation of winemakers, Ben and Jack Weaver. Fermentation was with indigenous yeasts and the result is a youthful, fruity Pinot with a lively flavours and a light to medium body. It's a great wine to drink lightly chilled in summer or as a light bodied winter red. Satisfying, refreshing and with complex notes; a lovely Marlborough Pinot Noir.

This Churton Estate Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown at altitude on a hillside vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. They were hand harvested, natural yeast fermented and spent 28 days on skins. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was aged in mature French oak for 16 months.
No fining or filtration makes this wine vegan friendly.
Winemaker Sam Weaver describes The Abyss Pinot Noir as an iron fist in a velvet glove. It's made with grapes grown on a hillside vineyard, which backs onto a precipitous cliff, hence the name, The Abyss. Vines were planted here in 2000 at a high density of approximately 5000 vines to the hectare, which is unusual for New Zealand. All of these grapes are 100% certified organic with BioGro New Zealand and also grown biodynamically. A high proportion of whole berries were included in the ferment with indigenous yeasts and the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months with a modest 10% new oak.

A super tasty, super smooth Pinot Noir made from grapes grown in Martinborough and vinified in Hawke’s Bay at Clearview Estate. This is a superb red fruited wine with its lively and youthfully fruity Pinot summer berry flavours. It’s great value for a wine that just sneaks in under $30. Clearview Estate Winery in Hawke’s Bay sourced grapes from Ferry Road in Martinborough to make this tasty Pinot Noir and this is the second time it’s been produced (2019 was the first). The wine was made at Clearview Estate with about 40% whole bunch fermentation, all wild fermented followed by aging in French oak, 18% new, for a year.

Clearview Estate is one of oldest, most well established wineries in Hawke's Bay and is situated on the Te Awanga Coast, south of Napier. It's a great place to visit for tastings at the cellar door as well as lunch in the dappled shade of the established courtyard area. The winery was founded by Tim Turvey, winemaker and co-owner. The current winemaker is the multi talented Matt Kirby.

It’s made entirely from grapes grown on the winery’s site. No grapes are bought in. There is no fining in any of the wines so all are vegan friendly. The Clos Henri winemaking team want the wines to speak about the place so they focus on low intervention.

The Petit Clos range from Clos Henri is produced from younger vines on the Clos Henri estate in Marlborough and offers wines made to the same exacting standard as the top flight wines in their portfolio, but at a lower price point.
This little stunner offers youthful and fresh aromas of wild strawberries and bright red fruits which evolves with subtle layers of spice and liquorice. At first dominated by plum and cherry, the textural palate develops spice and toasted oak notes. Svelte tannins and juicy acidity carry this wine on to a gentle, peppery finish.

Here is a Pinot Noir that shows how good Marlborough Pinot can be. Smooth with a hint of spice here and a touch of dark red cherry flavour there, this is complex and delicious. It drinks well now and can also age for a further three to four years.
