Scottish Whisky : Scotch
Balvenie is the young, strident upstart compared to it's owner and next door neighbour Glenfiddich. The Balvenie team get to experiment a little with their whisky, using weird and wonderful types of wood and new strains of barley etc. The Balvenie Double Wood is their best, and No. 1 whisky.?It's a rich amber in the glass - not quite to the extent of Hugh Hefners velvet drapes - but a warm and inviting hue all the same. The nose is sweet and lifted - bourbon wood doing the job here. Jersey caramels, jaffa, orange zest, and cinnamon buns dominate. It's mellow and sweet on the palate - with great honey-roasted cashew flavours, orange cake and marzipan notes. It finishes remarkably long for a 40% whisky.
Since 2002, the Balvenie distillers have dedicated one week a year to distilling whisky with 100% peated barley, resulting in the Peat Week bottlings! This is the second release in the series - a 14 year old single malt distilled in 2003, showing off hearty helping of rich smoke.
Nose: Toasted oak with a hint of heather, stroopwafel and coffee, flamed orange peel and dry cedar.
Palate: Butterscotch, roasted apricot, a light touch of floral malt, grows enjoyably spicy as it develops.
Finish: Earthy peat lingers alongside runny honey notes.
It's the sixth batch of Balvenie?s much-loved Tun 1509 series! This batch is a no age statement vatting of 21 casks from distillery, with a mixture of refill sherry butts, bourbon barrels and DoubleWood refill sherry butts. The Speysider was married in Tun 1509 for three months before bottling at 50.4% ABV. If you are so inclined, the presentation tube even comes with a breakdown of the 21 casks used to create the whisky, for your perusal.
Nose: Rich on the nose with soft brown sugar, toffee, blossom honey and ginger oak spices.
Palate: Beautiful depth on the palate with a touch of maple syrup, candied orange and runny honey.
Finish: Sweet and malty on the finish alongside swathes of oak vanilla and a spicy layer.
Packed with cherries, chocolate, and tropical fruits, this single sherry butt cask of Ben Nevis was chosen for the Hepburn's Choice range. This series from Hunter Laing bottles single casks and small batches that characterise the distillery or the classic profile of the region. 706 bottles were produced from this cask at 46%.
Nose – Almonds, citrus, honey and white chocolate. Hints of leaves and dust.
Palate – Honey and spices, tropical juices.
Finish – Bitter orange, cherries, icing sugar, coconut.

The Original Ten encapsulates the signature smooth and multi-layered character of Benriach. Three cask matured for at least ten years in bourbon barrels, sherry casks and virgin oak, to create layers of luscious orchard fruit, sumptuous honeyed malt and toasted oak, all interwoven with a subtle trace of smoke. The perfect introduction to our signature style and richly layered Speyside Single Malt.
In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention in Speyside by returning to distilling batches of whisky in the old, 19th century style, using malted barley smoked with Highland peat. This wood rich Highland peat imparts distinctly sweet and smoky notes into Benriach peated whiskies. Benriach The Smoky Ten has been crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and three cask matured for at least ten years in a combination of bourbon barrels, Jamaican rum casks and toasted virgin oak. The whisky is then expertly married together to create sublimely smooth layers of sunripe fruit, aromatic smoke and toasted oak spice, lingering into the perfectly balanced sweet and smoky finish.
Nose: Toasted coconut, aromatic smoke and a touch of greengage.
Palate: Cinnamon, ginger and dry smoke, shortly followed by maple syrup and peach.
Finish: Waves of fresh vanilla, salted butter and toasted barley.
A whisky that focuses on the richer side of Benriach's spirit, as well as it's darker smokier side. Aged for 12 years in a combination of bourbon, sherry and marsala casks, the peat smoke is complimented by dried fruit and vanilla from the bourbon and sherry casks, and rich, sweet fruit from the marsala.
The BenRiach Sherry Wood 12 Year Old scotch whisky shows sherry cask maturation at its most fruity and luscious. Baked fruit salad with fig, pear, apricot and glace cherry in mandarin syrup. Honey glazed flan with creme-caramel and toasted vanilla pod add to the multi-layered sweetness. Deep golden bronze, the Sherry Wood 12YO shows a rich fruit cocktail of honeyed fig, baked pineapple and sultana fused with chocolate fondant and muscovado sugar, lifted by mandarin cream, ground nutmeg and vanilla. On the finish savour nectarine, candied grape and star anise, lingering into the dessert-like sherried finish.

A nod to the history of Speyside, Benriach Temporis is peated, as they did back in the 1970s. It's been matured in a mix of bourbon barrels, virgin-oak casks, and Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks, adding in layers of fruit and spice on top of Benriach's honeyed peat smoke character.
