This pack contains one bottle each of the following wines.
2022 Neck Of The Woods, Pinot Gris, Central Otago, NZ (RRP $24.99)
Neck Of The Woods makes authentic wines that harness the weird and wild of Central Otago, staying true to the land with minimal intervention winemaking. The leading winemaker is Jen Parr who has been making wine in the region since 2007, most famously at Valli winery.
Parcels of fruit were hand-picked from a 20 year old vineyard in Gibbston and whole bunches were loaded into the press and the juice gently extracted over a three hour cycle. A combination of stainless steel and neutral oak were used for fermentation and lees contact was encouraged in barrel.
The resulting wine is complexly layered with great ageing potential. Drink now and over the next 5 to 6 years with shellfish, salmon, chicken, pork and quiche.
2020 Kerpen Handpicked Riesling, Mosel, Germany (RRP $22.99)
Wine making has been the Kerpen family business for 8 generations and almost 250 years. The winery is based in the Mosel, the world's biggest Riesling producing region, where steep slaty vineyards cascade into the Mosel River and the resulting wines are mineral and driven.
This is a gentle wine that is elegant and refreshing with lively acidity, restrained sweetness and zesty citrus flavours. Made with earlier harvested grapes with lower sugar levels, the ferment is stopped slightly early, leaving some natural residual sugar and a lower alcohol content.
Drink now and over the next three years with seafood dishes and goat’s cheese.
2022 Zaria Rose Malbec, Hawkes Bay, NZ (RRP $25.99)
This light pale pink rosé is reminiscent of the famous rosés of Provence such as those from Bandol.
Aromatics of bright red cherries, pomegranate and hibiscus flowers leap out of the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant offering a myriad of summer fruit flavours including red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberries.
Drink now and over the next year or so with lighter mediterranean dishes.
2020 Beretta Brognoligo Soave Classico DOC, Garganega, Veneto, Italy (RRP $18.99)
A smart Soave from the Cecilia Berettas single vineyard in Brognoligo - not far from Verona in Italy’s north west.
It offers all the hallmarks of the Garganega grape with citrus and nut aromatics that give way to a complex palate displaying fresh apricot characters and wonderful length. Rich, broad and textural, Soave is one of Italy's most significant white styles.
Drink now and over the next two years with seafood platters and chicken.
2020 Misha's Limelight Riesling, Central Otago, NZ (RRP $33.99)
Central Otago isn’t just about Pinot - the region is also making excellent acid-driven whites.
This is a fab example of what the region can do with Riesling and offers classic aromatics of lime, citrus and flint with a refreshing lemon acidity on the fruit pure palate, which is perfectly balanced by notes of sweet wild thyme honey.
Limelight Riesling is one of the “Fine Wines of New Zealand” - an exclusive classification sponsored by Air New Zealand to denote the country’s top wines.
Drink now and over the next 3 years with raw, cured and smoked fish, pork dishes and goat’s cheese.
Alpha Domus Beatrix Sparkling Rosé NV, Merlot, Hawke’s Bay (RRP $19.99)
The story of Alpha Domus began in 1989 when the founding Ham Family purchased 20 hectares of bare land in an area of the Western Heretaunga plains, later to become known as the Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District.
This wine was first created in 2016 as the whimsical brainchild of third generation Beatrix Ham.
Merlot grapes were harvested early at optimal ripeness for sparkling wine and only free run and light press juice was used, ensuring a perfect balance of freshness and weight. A quintessential favourite that can be enjoyed all year round.
Drink now as an aperitif or with tuna and salmon dishes.
