Sweet, rich and classic Hungarian wine with high glycerol and powerful honeyed texture. Tokaji is one of the great sweet wines of the world and comes from grapes grown on the shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary, the largest lake in Europe. Shrivelled grapes are hand picked late in the growing season when their skins have dehydrated and the sugar content inside each grape has been raised, which provides ideal raw material from which to make great sweet wines.

The word puttonyos is a Hungarian word for the level of sugar in a wine; natural grape sugar, that is and 5 puttonyos equates to 120 grams of residual sugar, left in the wine post fermentation.

Here are the residual sugar levels in Tokaji...
Residual sugar levels (grams per litre)
3 Puttonyos - 60
4 Puttonyos - 90
5 Puttonyos - 120
6 Puttonyos - 150
