Glendalough Sloe Gin
The Glendalough Sloe Gin is part of Glendalough Distillery's "Ginteresting Series", which are bottles of very limited releases of small batch gins.
Sloes are the dark tannic fruit of the native blackthorn and are harvested in late Autumn by Glendalough Distillery's very own forager 'Geraldine Kavanagh'. Each sloe is then pierced with a thorn, added to Glendalough's Wild Botanical Gin and sweetened. Over a period of 6 months, the gin is infused with juniper, coriander, angelica and orange peel and the gin turns a deep ruby red, giving a fruity character to the gin. Many sloe gins have a lower alcohol strength since the sloes dilute the spirit but Glendalough Distillery maintains the Glendalough Sloe Gin at 41% ABV.
Earthy fruit, almond and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh and tannic with lots of fruit, notes of almond and clove when still young. As it ages, it mellows, getting sweeter and Madeira like on the palate. Warm and spicy finish.
Perfect enjoyed neat on the rocks or in a G&T, with garnishes such as fresh pine needles, thyme, orange twist or cinnamon stick. Also great in sparkling wine.
